Integrated Language Arts Licensure Requirements

The provisional high school teacher's certificate (grades 7-12) will be issued by the State of Ohio to the holder of a bachelor's degree upon the recommendation of Xavier University, provided the pattern of education leading to the degree conforms to the following requirements:

Professional Education (31 semester hours)

EDMS 131 Professional Education and Field Experiences (3)
EDSP 200 Special Education Identification & Issues (3)
EDFD 110 Human Development and Learning (3)
EDRE 371 Content Area Literacy (3)
EDMS 350 Technology and Topics for Educators (3)
EDMS 331 Methods, Curriculum and Assessment in Language Arts (3)
EDSP 380 Classroom Management (3)
EDMS 411 Clinical Experiences (1)
EDMS 470 Student Teaching: Secondary & Seminar (9)

General Education (30 semester hours)

Course work well distributed over the following areas:
a. Studies in humanities
b. Mathematics
c. Natural sciences
d. Social sciences

Specific Teaching Field(s) (45 semester hours)

Course work must fulfill the particular requirements for each chosen field.

Field/Clinical Hours

A total of 300 clock hours must be completed in specific school settings.
