Q. Why should I choose to rent my textbooks?
A. When you rent your books, you'll pay, on average, less than half of the new price. Guaranteed! That's right, the exact same book, over half off. The rental period runs through the last day of finals, so you'll have your book as long as you need it. Simply return it to the bookstore in good, used condition (highlighting is ok, missing pages is not) and you will never see another charge for that book. Q. How do I know if Renting is best for me?
A. Renting can save you money, but it may not always be the best option for you. For example if you are taking a two semester class, like many of the Biology and Chemistry classes, you will probably want to buy the book rather than rent it, especially if the book is available in used condition. Also, if the book is in your major, you may want to buy rather than rent so you can keep it as a reference. If you are not sure if you want to rent or buy a specific book, you can always convert your rental to a purchase within the first half of the semester.
Q. Sounds good so far. How do I actually rent my books?
A. Well, here's what you'll need to get started: First, you just need to be 18 years or older, with a valid credit card (or have a parent willing to sign up for you). An email address and a driver's license/state ID is also a must. Finally, you'll need to fill out a rental agreement, which signifies your commitment to bringing your book back by the check in date. Then, just come to the bookstore and we'll get you what you need. Q. What if I rent a book and then decide I NEED to keep it?
A. So you've decided that you will need your rented book longer than just one term? If you want to keep the book that you've rented, you just need to let us know sooner rather than later. You have within your store's refund period to convert your rental to a purchase. You'll simply receive a refund of your rental fee and be charged the regular retail price based on the book's purchased condition: new or used.
Q. How can I sell my textbooks back to the Xavier Bookstore?
A. Simple, just bring them into the Xavier Bookstore with your Xavier ALL Card and we can tell you how much you can get for them.
Q. How does the bookstore determine what to pay me for selling my textbooks back?
A. Several factors are used to determe the value of used textbooks, including:
- Condition - Any book being sold back must be in good shape, with binding, covers and every page intact. If you purchased your book with a CD or other components, make sure you bring those with you.
- Course Materials Orders - If an instructor has requested your textbook for next term, then the value increases. Books falling into this category may be worth more and may get you up to 50% of the New Book price. Generally speaking, textbooks will be purchased until we reach the amount we can resell before dropping to the current market value.
- Overstocks and Current Editions Not Being Used on Campus - If we have reached our limit on a particular title for the next term, or if your book has not been requested for next term and is a current edition, we may still purchase it based on various criteria including the national demand and the needs of other bookstores.
Q. How do I order textbooks online by course?
A. Ordering your books online from your bookstore is simple, quick and convenient. All you need to know are the classes and the term.
Once you are on the bookstore site (www.xavier.bkstr.com), click on Textbooks and you will be brought to the order page. The process begins by selecting the appropriate campus and term ( i.e. Spring 2009). Now pull out your class schedule. For each of your classes, our process will walk you through choosing your department, course and section. The section number is very important because different instructors will often use different textbooks. After you've selected a class, we'll show you the required textbooks and any recommended textbooks needed for that class. You may then select new or used based on availability, then put them in your shopping cart and continue ordering until you've gone through your class schedule.
Or, you can link to the bookstore web site from your personal registration page the Student Hub and your book list will automatically populate for you to then choose what books you would like to order, required and recommended. If your instructor has not decided on a textbook for your class, you be given an option to receive an email when a decision is made.

Q. Where should I park to visit the bookstore?
A. The easiest place to park to shop at the bookstore is in the lot behind the Gallagher Student Center. From Dana Avenue, take University Drive (the closest entrance to campus from Victory Parkway) and see the parking attendant for a visitor's pass. University Drive flows right into the parking lot behind Gallagher.
