Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. How can I fund my U.S. Bank account without having a U.S. Bank in my hometown?
-
A. You could handle this several ways.
- Mail a deposit directly to the U.S. Bank branch on campus. Please do not send cash.
The campus address is:
Xavier University
U.S. Bank Xavier Branch
Gallagher Center Room 260
3800 Victory Parkway
Cincinnati, OH 45207-2151
- Use your hometown bank’s online bill paying function to electronically transfer the funds, as long as your hometown bank offers it.
- If you do not have a bank account in your hometown, you can do a wire transfer. For more information, please contact your local bank or a U.S. Bank representative.
- Mail a deposit directly to the U.S. Bank branch on campus. Please do not send cash.
- Q. When will my deposit be available?
- A. In most situations, for a deposit to be made to a consumer checking account, $100 is available for use immediately. The balance of the deposit will be available to cover items that are posted to the account the same day the deposit is made.
- Exceptions:
- For new customers making a deposit in the branch, the balance of the deposit is available the fifth business day after the date of deposit. A new customer is defined as a customer who has opened a new account in the past 30 days and has no existing deposit relationship with U.S. Bank.
- Cash deposits and electronic direct deposits are available immediately.
- For deposits made at another bank’s ATM, the balance of the deposit is available the fifth business day after the date of deposit.
- Remember:
- Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays are not business days; deposits made on these days will be considered deposited on the next business day that U.S. Bank is open.
- Deposits made after the end of the processing day in your branch are considered deposited on the next business day (generally mid-afternoon in the branch and 6 PM at the ATM).
- Deposits sent by mail are considered deposited the day the deposit is received.
- Other Important Information:
- Available Balance is the amount of funds available for the customer’s immediate use.
- Overdraft fees or insufficient funds fees are assessed when the transaction causes the Available Balance to become negative or occurs while the Available Balance is negative.
- When a U.S. Bank Check Card is used, that transaction amount should be deducted from the check register balance immediately.
Please refer to the “Your Deposit Account: Terms and Conditions” brochure for details regarding the U.S. Bank Funds Availability Policy and Electronic Banking Agreement.
- Q. How can I check my account online?
- A. You can access your account online by going to usbank.com and logon to Internet Banking. The first logon requires an initial set-up to access your accounts. For Internet Banking questions, please contact 1-800-US BANKS (872-2657) to talk to a U.S. Bank representative. Once you are enrolled in Internet Banking, you can check your account balance, view your account history including the ability to view any pre-authorized transactions that are still pending from Check Card purchases, and more. Plus, now you can pay bills online with Free Internet Bill Pay from U.S. Bank.
- Q. What address should I put on my account to have mail delivered to me?
- A. Your account information can be sent to any address you like, but we recommend that you have account information sent to your permanent address or your hometown address. While attending Xavier, your campus address will likely change each year. Instead of changing your address every time you move or go home for the summer, it is more convenient to have your account listed under your permanent address. You can also enroll in our Online Statements program, available through U.S. Bank Internet Banking.
- Q. What is the difference between my ALL Card and my U.S. Bank ATM Card?
- A. Your ALL Card is your campus identification card, library card and campus dining card. Your ALL Card, when activated to be used as your U.S. Bank ATM card, will give you access to your checking account at ATMs. Not only can you use your ALL Card as an ATM card, you also can complete PIN-based debit transactions at over 1.2 million retailers within the Interlink network. Purchases are debited directly from your U.S. Bank checking account. Check with your favorite local retailers to find out if they are a part of the Interlink network.
- Q. What is an overdraft?
- A. An overdraft occurs when your Available Balance goes below zero, and there are no funds to cover a withdrawal or payment. Typically, your bank will charge you a fee to cover an overdraft. At U.S. Bank, this charge automatically happens after the overdraft occurs. To protect this from happening to your account, please see What is overdraft protection?
- Q. What is overdraft protection?
- A. Overdraft protection is designed to “cover” your account in case of an overdraft. With overdraft protection, U.S. Bank transfers money from one account to another to cover the sum of the negative balance. This is HIGHLY recommended for first-time accountholders.
There are two ways you can set up overdraft protection. You can either open a U.S. Bank Savings Account or apply for a U.S. Bank College Visa Card. Ask a U.S. Bank representative for more details.
- Q. What is the Five Star Service Guarantee?
- A. Other banks promise great service, but only U.S. Bank guarantees it with our exclusive Five Star Service Guarantee. We make a promise to deliver the highest level of customer service, and we pay customers if they do not receive the service they expected and deserved.
U.S. Bank 24-Hour Bankers will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
ATMs will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You will wait in line no longer than 5 minutes in any teller line.
We will respond to all questions the same day, when asked before 3 p.m.
Checking and savings statements will always be accurate.
- Q. Am I required to have a minimum balance on my U.S. Bank checking account?
- A. On the U.S. Bank Student Checking Account (also known as Xavier Checking), there is no minimum balance requirement. However, to keep your account active for your next year at Xavier, we do ask that you keep at least one dollar in your account over the summer.
- Q. What information do I need to bring to the branch when I make a transaction?
- A. When you make any U.S. Bank transaction, we will need your U.S. Bank account number. We cannot locate your account information using your ALL Card or student identification number. If you are making a deposit or withdrawal transaction, please use a deposit or withdrawal slip. Deposit slips are available in the back of your checkbook, or you can find deposit and withdrawal slips at the branch.
