Pilot Core Curriculum Committee Charge

The Core Curriculum Committee will have the responsibilities of compiling and articulating the expected goals and outcomes for learning in core courses, assessing the success of core courses in fulfilling these outcomes, and making recommendations based upon these findings. This would include the following responsibilities:

  1. Articulating the overarching goals and outcomes for student learning in the Core Curriculum, based upon the original purposes of the core curriculum and submitting this information to Faculty Committee for discussion at Faculty Assembly and subsequent approval and communication to college Curriculum Committees, BUGS, the Academic Assessment and Planning Committee, and the academic administration
  2. Facilitating the integration of discipline-specific learning outcomes, as developed by each academic department, into those overarching goals and outcomes for core courses
  3. Documenting the progress achieved in meeting the learning goal and outcome expectations for the Core Curriculum, including a review of the effectiveness of core courses in achieving these outcomes
  4. Communicating the findings of this review process and making recommendations based upon these results, at set intervals, to the Faculty Committee and Assembly, college Curriculum Committees, BUGS, the Academic Assessment and Planning Committee, and the academic administration
  5. Evaluating the effectiveness of the pilot Core Curriculum Committee and making a recommendation on the composition and charge for a permanent academic committee to Faculty Committee for discussion at Faculty Assembly and subsequent approval
