Mission Statement
The Xavier Alliance is established to provide a safe place for people of all sexual orientations and gender identity to meet, offer opportunities to learn, teach and discuss the challenges surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity within the Jesuit teachings of being people for others.
About the Alliance
The Xavier Alliance is open to people of any sexual orientation and gender identity and our goal is to bridge the gaps between persons of all sexual and gender identities. Meetings are open to anyone, no matter how you identify; no pressure is put on any member and there are no assumptions made about anyone in the group. All meetings are confidential and attendees need only share what they want. Please e-mail us with any questions, comments, or concerns.
The Xavier Alliance within the Jesuit, Catholic tradition
The basis of Catholic morality is the dignity of the human person. Anything that detracts from that dignity is immoral.
In the Statement on Sexual Orientation, the University states "unequivocally that gay and lesbian students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni are welcome members of the University community, and that any prejudicial thoughts or actions directed against them have no place within our community."
At the core of being a Jesuit institution is the service of faith through the promotion of justice. Part of the way the Society of Jesus deals with the injustice of prejudice is through the promotion of justice in bringing the marginalized to the mainstream.
