Ohio Licensure Options*

Required Courses for ALL Ohio Administration Licensure:

EDAD 543 Supervision of Instruction (3 hours)
EDAD 548 Principalship (3 hours)
EDAD 562 Political Structures and School/Community Relations (3 hours)
EDAD 563 School Business Affairs and Physical Facilities (3 hours)
EDAD 564 Administration of Staff Personnel (3 hours)
EDAD 565 School Law (3 hours)
EDAD 566 School Finance (3 hours)
EDAD 570 Planning, Evaluation and Assessment (3 hours)
EDAD 660 Curriculum Design & Teaching Strategies (3 hours)

Beginning September 1, 2013 all individuals seeking an Ohio Administration License must successfully complete the Ohio Assessments of Educators (OAE) exam "Educational Leadership" #015, to be eligible for an Ohio administration license.  Individuals who successfully completed the appropriate Praxis Exam prior to September 1, 2013 may use the test results to satisfy the licensure testing requirements at the time the licensure is sought. Ohio Specialist License

In addition to M.Ed. in Educational Administration or equivalent M.Ed &. licensure courses listed above, candidates must complete six (6) semester hours in their specialty area.   Total semester hours needed for Administration Ohio Specialist License is 45 hours.

Specialist Internship(s) I

Includes field based experience for reading intervention.

Ohio Superintendent License

In addition to M.Ed. in Educational Administration or equivalent M.Ed. & licensure courses listed above, candidates must complete six (6) semester hours in their specialty area.  Total semester hours needed for Administration Ohio Superintendent License is 57 hours.

Superintendent licensure candidates must complete six (6) semester hours from the following internships:

Kentucky Licensure Options*

The Xavier University Kentucky Licensure Programs are currently under revision based on the Educational Professional Standards Board, Frankfort, Kentucky's new regulations for licensure in Kentucky.  As soon as Xavier University's updated programs are approved they will be posted. 

The Kentucky Educational Administration Licensure Programs currently under revision: 

  • Kentucky All Grade Principal License
  • Kentucky Superintendent License
  • Kentucky Supervisor of Instruction License
  • Director of Special Education License
  • Director of Pupil Personnel License
