Lori Johnson

Assistant Provost for Student Enrichment

Lori Johnson assumed her duties as assistant provost in August 2012. As assistant provost for student enrichment, she will manage tutoring, disability support services, and career services for students and alumni, lead the support for the expansion of the University's international programs, and support the integration of the Center for Faith and Justice into students' daily lives.

Prior to her appointment at Xavier she was the Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (2007-2012) and Director of Undergraduate Advising (2004-2012) at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. In this role, Ms. Johnson had supervisory responsibility for the Registrar's Office, Undergraduate Advising and Study Abroad. She was also an instructor in the First-Year Experience program. During her tenure Ms. Johnson integrated advising services with academic support, study abroad and registration, resulting in a 65 percent increase in student contact.  She developed Bryant's first study abroad office, providing students intellectual, personal and ethical development in an international atmosphere. Her approach to student development is holistic, requiring considerable collaboration among programs and services.

From 1999-2003, she served as Assistant Director of First Year Studies at her alma mater, Saint Mary's College. Early in her career she had two appointments at the University of Notre Dame Upward Bound Project, first as an Academic Coordinator from 1992-1993 and later as the Senior Advisor 1994-1999.

Ms. Johnson is an active member of NAFSA, The Forum on Education Abroad, NACADA and AAC&U. She also served on the National Advisor Board for the College of Global Studies at Arcadia University from 2009-2011.

Ms. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Social Work from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana and Master of Science Administration from the University of Notre Dame. The master's level education focused on strategy, leadership and management of not-for-profit institutions.
