Associate Provost for Student Affairs

Dave Johnson was named the Associate Provost for Student Affairs in July 2012.

He had been the Executive Director of the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice at Xavier University and Interim Associate Provost for Student Affairs.

Dave was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin and received his bachelor's degree in Peace Studies from Saint John's University in Collegeville, MN.  Following a 9-month bicycle trip from the southern most tip of Argentina to Collegeville, MN and a year of teaching in Belize, Dave returned to St. John's to lead social justice and service learning programming.  In 2000 Dave migrated back to Latin American to work for the SHARE Foundation, a U.S.-Salvadoran NGO that facilitates cross-border grassroots organizing, economic development initiatives and political advocacy.  Dave worked five years for the SHARE Foundation, the first half of that time as the Coordinator of Grassroots Organizing in San Salvador and the second half as the Political Advocacy Director in Washington, DC.  Dave went onto complete a master's degree in theology with a concentration in social ethics at Boston College.  While at Boston College, he worked in Campus Ministry and Residence Life supporting the international immersion trips program and living in a first-year residence hall. 

Dave joined Xavier University as the Director of Peace and Justice Programs in July of 2007.  During the 2009-2010 academic year, Dave facilitated the development of the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice.  This new center challenges and supports students as they deepen their spiritual lives, pursue justice and promote pluralism.

Currently Dave is pursuing a PhD in student affairs in higher education from Miami University in Oxford, OH.
